A
Marketer’s Plan to Guarantee
Every Women's Right to Choose
Dear Direct Marketing Colleague,
As if all of us didn’t have enough ugly news to deal with, Texas just iced the mudpie.
This cranky blog was launched in April 2018 in hopes of helping to correlate old-fashioned direct marketing knowhow into the very different new world of digital communications.
Sixteen weeks later—-in April 2018—the specter was raised of women being forced revert to the barbaric practice of using wire coat hangers and knitting needles as the final options to their right to choose.
I was as appalled then as I am now.
During my 60-year career in marketing, the continual challenge was (and is) coming up with practical solutions to solve knotty problems. I scribbled off a letter to my great friend and colleague Roger Craver, the country’s best-known liberal fund raiser.
The situation was not as dire three years ago as it is today. Roger suggested I was ahead of my time.

• SCOTUS was reasonable.
• God was in Her heaven.
If the idea described below flies, no matter what SCOTUS, POTUS, lower courts, Congress or the states decide about Roe v. Wade, safe abortions will be forever available—free—to all women of child-bearing age in America.

Alas, Denny, faster than you can get all this done, SCOTUS and other forces that hate giving women control over their own bodies would find ways to defeat it. Abortion clinics in Canada? The news this morning was about the Trump government's refusing to allow a Canadian citizen entry into the United States because he had invested — invested! — in a corporation that raises marijuana in a state where doing so is legal.

The only way to get rid of horrid anti-abortion (and soon to come, anti-birth control) laws is to get the bastards behind them out of power and, in some cases, into prison where they belong.Thank you for taking the time to Comment.

The reason for the 2 Step plan is:
Step 1 can be executed NOW while women's right to choose is legal is some states.
Step 2 is post 2018/20 where a dramatic change in government will allow for passage pf as short-term temporary health exception to Passport regulations. This plan will then circumvent all state and federal anti-abortion laws.Your New York Crank may be a little over the top Denny but his bottom line seems right on. Get the bastards out of power. They know not what they destroy.

Thanks Denny, for staying on the case. And for the comment above to another post, regarding healthy debate. We're losing or have lost that skill in America. Largely because so few people care about facts anymore. It's all opinion.
ReplyDeleteWere it the reverse -- were we more fact oriented -- the pro-life crowd would willingly acknowledge that the safest, most effective way to lower abortion rates is to make abortion widely available and easy to access.
Switzerland, which has some of the most open women reproductive freedoms on the planet, also has the lowest abortion rate per capita. In no small part because their lack of obsession with abortion opens them up to a very generous approach to birth control.

I wish Liberals would make that argument more loudly. But then, I wish Libertarians would stick to their principles and resist laws like the one in Texas, based on it's invasion of personal freedoms. And I wish Republicans -- who love to claim they're the party of personal responsibility -- would leave the responsibility for such a personal decision up to the women who wind up in a position to make it.

… And I’m convinced that in your emotional reaction to Texas, et all, you have forsaken your direct marketing roots.
Rule #1 — Test everything.
Rule #2 — See rule #1.
Here’s what I know:
1. Your original idea was a rollout of a very complicated, very expensive idea. Too many moving parts, too many places to break down.
2. In the NYT today, it was announced that the Mexican Supreme Court decriminalized abortion. So now we can use Mexico as a safe haven. (in 2018, we probably couldn’t.)
3. I used to be lead writer on Planned Parenthood appeals in the Pacific Northwest. The move by Texas will open the donor floodgates for Planned Parenthood and NARAL. They will be awash in cash. And there’s an opportunity for them to make even more money if this idea works.
4. Netjets goes away. Planes are too expensive to rent and Corporations typically won’t get involved with controversial programs. And you would have to plan around paying customers who often book at the last minute. Won’t work.
5. Busses are cheap and are easy to control. The driving distance from anywhere in Texas to four centers just over the border is doable.
The idea:
1. The economic partners are NARAL and Planned Parenthood. NARAL takes the lead on demand generation and transportation, PP takes the lead on establishing and managing the clinics. These are the only partners who can do whatever it takes to get things done.
2. Create the Women’s Freedom Express — daily pickup and delivery of Women between Texas and clinics in Mexico. Start with one bus and one metro area-clinic pair (PP can tell you where), prove the concept and then rollout.
3. The Women’s Freedom Express can now generate its own donations on top of what it gets from NARAL and PP. The CTRAD on this will be very, very low.
Now let’s take it one more step. Assume Idaho, Montana and Wyoming go all Texas on us. How do we solve that one? We don’t need to go to Canada. Women’s Freedom Express of Washington! Each state or cluster of states will have a different solution based on what will work. As long as we KISS — keep it simple, stupid — this should work.

DeleteTHANKS FOR WRITING, BOB. I FLAT-OUT DISAGREE. THIS BLOG POST IS NOT AN EXERCISE IN DIRECT MARKETING TECHNIQUE REQUIRING TESTING AND COST FACTORS. THIS IS ABOUT FEARFUL WHITE SUPREMASISTS AND RELIGIOUS WACKOS SECURING THEIR RIGHT TO GO UP THE VAGINA AND INTO THE UTERUS OF EVERY WOMAN OF CHILDBEARING AGE IN THE WORLD, SO THEY CAN DICTATE WHAT GOES ON IN THERE. TEXAS SENATE BILL 8 BREACHES TWO BASIC CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS: (1) OWNERSHIP OF YOUR OWN BODY AND (2) FREEDOM FROM THE GOVERNMENT DEPUTISING A PUSSY POSSE OF GREEDY BOUNTY HUNTING SNOOPS HOPING FOR CASH REWARDS. IN THIS CAUSE—SAVING AMERICA FROM THE CRAZIES—PRICE IS NO OBJECT
DeleteLet me add my name, which didn't pop up. Great post - Harvey McKinnon
ReplyDeleteThank you Denny. We need more people like you to suggest reasonable methods to offer abortion. We also should mount a means to embarrass those fat white men in Texas to support adoption. Women should begin to refrain from sex with conservative wackoos. Of course you noticed that Mexico has changed its laws about abortion. Good for them, good for us.
