It's High Time to Shriek Truth to the Media,
Congress, Supreme Court and Gun Lobby

America the Sanitized: One of Many Sad, Sick Memorials

Above is a front-page photo from last week’s online edition of The Washington Post. This pastoral ad hoc memorial with sweet floral bouquets doesn’t begin to show the bloody-minded mayhem and murder by a marauding maniac of sweet innocent children and their wonderful teachers.

Looking for a powerful lede illustration for this blog post, I ransacked the Internet in search of a news photographer’s full-color photo of an actual murder scene. I wanted to shock and show the carnage of a grade school massacre—tiny innocent bodies, heads blown to bits and covered in bright red blood gunned down in one another’s arms.

I found no such picture available anywhere from inside the United States—where the vast majority of us have never seen war firsthand.

I did discover some black-and-white photos of corpses piled up on WWII battlefields and in Nazi concentration camps. Alas, no visuals that would rile up viewers and readers with images of small, sweet children as the victims of pandemonium and covered in blood in the “greatest country in the world.”

However, here’s one image I turned up:

Note the caption: “polliticallyincorrect.news.”

A Media Conspiracy

It’s painfully obvious the media are engaged in a vast unspoken conspiracy to sanitize America. They will not show actual carnage — live or stills in blazing full color — because it’s “politically incorrect.”

The print, TV and e-news nabobs are obviously terrified of showing anything that might be “in bad taste” that could upset precious readers, viewers and politicians, causing them to not only raise a fuss, but also click on “delete,” switch channels and/or cancel their subscriptions.

Print, digital and TV media are more concerned with saving their fat asses rather than saving young, precious lives. This is also true of the President, Congress and the Supreme Court.

My opinion: it’s high the hell time the entire country got sickened, upset and mightily pissed off.

For Starters…

To review the bidding, here’s a quickie look at the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that was ratified December 15, 1791:

“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

These twenty-six words have been the law of the land for 231 years.

Let this YouTube Video #1 show you what that Second Amendment provision meant to the authors and signers of the Constitution in 1776.

Got that? Rather comforting. Sweet, actually. Protect your home and family from intruders, rapists, outlaws and rampaging Indians. Go hunting to put food on the table. Absolutely it made common sense in 1791.

What about today? Memorial Day Weekend 2022?

Okay, let’s look at a very short (29 seconds) instructional video. Thanks to YouTube, you can visualize what parents, their grade school children and educators are dealing with today in terms of AR-15s—Americans' weapon of choice for the mass murdering of elementary school children in their classrooms.

Takeaways to Consider

• You are invited to join me in founding and funding a 501c3 organization:

"ONE-WORD CHANGE IN THE SECOND AMENDMENT"

“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms Single Shot Muzzle Loaders, shall not be infringed.”

-or-

"REPEAL THE SECOND AMENDMENT"

• Just kidding. DO NOT SEND ME MONEY!

• However, the sanitizing of America — plus the national policy of outrage, bluster, hand wringing and inaction will not Save the Children. I'd like to think we are better than that. We are not.

P.S. Thank you, God, for YouTube.

  1. Denny: Great blog. And, no need to change the Second Amendment. Take a look at what Warren Burger (Chief Justice of Supreme Court) said here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eya_k4P-iEo ("If the militia ....were going to be regulated...why wouldn't 16 and 17 year olds be regulated just as a car is regulated?" (transcript errors, mine). Here's an article Justice Burger wrote, too: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/102574603/record-searchlight/

because if you stick around you’ll get one of those great YouTube bonus goodies—a fascinating conversation with Ken Starr and Justice Scalia, one of the smartest guys and delightful legal minds whom I never tire of. Here is the YouTube link to the Starr-Scalia Interview.

  2. Denny Hatch, a marketing mastermind, writes today that he looked, unsuccessfully, for an image of how dead, bloody children look after someone has taken an AK15 to them.
Perhaps that’s the key to having assault weapons taken off the market? If we saw gore instead of thoughts and prayers and flower tributes, we might do something. We might demand our leaders do something.
We have to stop protecting our sensibilities and start protecting our children and neighbors.

    Hi Denny,
I posted this photo on Facebook after I heard of the shooting in Texas with the caption - “Hey, Republicans, what do you say we put a face on it?”
It’s an ER room after a gunshot victim has been dealt with. No telling if he survived or not. I would guess - not.
Interestingly you can watch all these dumb ass Vietnam movies and see soldiers firing automatic M-16 rifles. There was no such animal. The M-16s we used were semi-automatic. One shot per trigger pull.
This is why all these jackasses need high capacity magazines when they buy a fully automatic AR-15. The M-16 (AR-15) standard magazine holds 20 rounds, but you can’t put twenty rounds in the magazine because it makes the spring too tight and causes the weapon to jam.
We would only put 18 rounds into them to avoid a jam. If you had the capacity to fire on automatic you would 1) blow through the clip in a few seconds & 2) be out of ammo in no time. You had to be frugal; you could only carry so much.
    All best,
    Steve Z.

    Denny:
Very good. Loved this. As a doting grandpa of two elementary school kids, these events make me heartsick, as they do virtually all Americans.
I have never understood Scalia and his brethren interpretation of 2nd amendment. The second sentence reads to me as an explanation or qualification of the first sentence...otherwise why have it ?
One footnote to your article. I assume you are familiar with Emmett Till's murder. His mom wanted an open casket so others could see what a racist few had done to her son. See 2:25 of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V6ffUUEvaM

Well said. All these school shootings should be labelled as acts of domestic terrorism not as 'mass shootings'. The gun makers need to be seen as enablers of said terrorism and lose their legal immunity. The Uvalde terrorism did rather expose 'the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun' adage, when it turned out the good guy in town was having his haircut.

    Hi, Denny:
    A truly awful thing.
Sadly not the first and, very sadly, I suspect not the last.
Coming from the UK, the right to bear arms seems very odd.
As does being able to buy them from a supermarket.
And quite why anyone needs an AR51 Assault Rifle is beyond me.

Hi Denny. I agree with you 100%. I have often said that we should show those pictures, especially to our legislators. Especially to those with young children or grandchildren. Shame on all of them!

Your temper tantrum is typical of an east coast statist socialist who either flunked history or was taught by someone who flunked history or both and now thinks that the government is the answer to all problems. The government is source of almost every problem. Too bad you hadn’t studied under your fellow Philadelphian Dr. Walter Williams.
The second amendment was actually about protecting all of us from the government. It also help reframe the Japanese from invading the west coast during WW2. The “vision” of the second amendment was that “we the people” would have whatever armaments the government had.
Maybe we should talk about how the nut case was shooting OUTSIDE the school at a funeral home for about 12 minutes and the school never locked down and the cops never showed up during that entire time. And that was long before the cops were forced to wait outside for almost an hour because the site commander made horrible decisions based upon horrible intelligence.
